Social innovation

Category 1

Many things we take for granted today began as pure innovations in the past. For example, a century ago, few believed that ordinary people could be trusted to drive cars, and the idea of free healthcare was considered far-fetched and impractical. But with deeper analysis of problems and the development of new and innovative solutions, much of what was once impossible has become possible. While national strategies to support innovation in business and technology proliferated, similar national strategies for understanding and supporting social innovation were lacking. However, with the increasing number of social problems and challenges in various areas, such as health, education, poverty, and environmental pollution, we find ourselves facing wicked problems—complex problems that seem impossible to solve.
